As the electric vehicle market continues to evolve, Tesla has introduced the 2026 Model 3 Standard, a more affordable variant of its popular Model 3 lineup. With a price tag that's over $5,000 less than its premium counterpart, this new model seems like an attractive option for those looking to own a Tesla without breaking the bank. But does the Model 3 Standard sacrifice too much in terms of features and performance to achieve its lower price point? In this review, we'll delve into the details of this new model and examine whether it's worth considering.

Introduction

The 2026 Tesla Model 3 Standard is the latest addition to Tesla's Model 3 lineup, offering a more affordable entry point into the world of electric vehicles. By sacrificing a few features and amenities, Tesla has managed to price this model significantly lower than its premium counterpart, making it an attractive option for those on a budget. But how does this new model fare in terms of performance, features, and overall driving experience? In this review, we'll explore the details of the Model 3 Standard and help you decide if it's the right choice for you.

Overview and Key Features

The 2026 Tesla Model 3 Standard comes with a more basic exterior design compared to its premium counterpart. The front fascia features a smaller grille, while the rear bumper has been simplified. However, the overall shape and proportions of the car remain the same. Inside, the cabin has been stripped of some of its premium features, including a more basic infotainment system and fewer comfort amenities. However, the Model 3 Standard still offers a spacious and comfortable cabin, with ample legroom and cargo space.

One of the notable changes in the Model 3 Standard is the suspension system, which has been simplified to reduce costs. This results in a slightly firmer ride, but not to the point where it becomes uncomfortable. The car's electric powertrain remains the same, with a single motor producing 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This is down from the premium Model 3's dual-motor setup, but still provides plenty of acceleration and responsiveness.

Real-World Performance

We spent several days driving the 2026 Tesla Model 3 Standard, and our initial impressions were mixed. On the one hand, the car's electric powertrain provides effortless acceleration and smooth, quiet operation. However, the simplified suspension system does result in a slightly firmer ride, which can be noticeable on rough roads.

In terms of handling, the Model 3 Standard is still a capable and responsive car, with precise steering and good stability. However, it lacks the agility and precision of its premium counterpart, which is more geared towards enthusiasts.

Strengths and Weaknesses

One of the strengths of the 2026 Tesla Model 3 Standard is its affordability. With a price tag that's over $5,000 less than its premium counterpart, this model is an attractive option for those on a budget. Additionally, the car's electric powertrain provides excellent performance and efficiency, making it an excellent choice for those looking to own an eco-friendly vehicle.

However, the Model 3 Standard's simplified suspension system and fewer comfort amenities do result in a slightly compromised driving experience. Additionally, the car's more basic infotainment system and fewer premium features may be a turn-off for some buyers.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

Affordable price point

Excellent electric powertrain performance and efficiency

Spacious and comfortable cabin

Simplified suspension system provides a firm ride

Cons:

Fewer comfort amenities and premium features

More basic infotainment system

Simplified suspension system may not be suitable for all drivers

Less agile and precise handling compared to premium Model 3

Final Verdict

The 2026 Tesla Model 3 Standard is an attractive option for those looking to own a Tesla without breaking the bank. While it sacrifices some features and amenities to achieve its lower price point, it still offers a spacious and comfortable cabin, excellent electric powertrain performance, and a simplified suspension system that provides a firm ride. However, buyers should be aware that the Model 3 Standard's more basic infotainment system and fewer premium features may be a turn-off for some. Ultimately, the Model 3 Standard is a solid choice for those looking for a budget-friendly electric vehicle, but it may not be the best option for those who prioritize premium features and performance.

It is possible to install the 18-inch Photon wheel covers on the Standard model?

I have the 2024 Model 3. White on white. 🤍🤍 Looks like they stopped giving the interior option!

So no physical seat controls (which is very annoying), a tire pressure monitor system that can’t tell you your PSI, and no FM radio that you can find on a car from 1995. Really?

My dads taxi/uber fleet just ordered the premium model ys. The longer ranger and faster charging will pay for itself when drivers stop less to charge , the standard is too standard for ubers

Previous Model 3 was 39990 euros, now it is considered the premium version and sells at 45000 euros? This honestly makes the previous 2024 version waaaaay better

Thanks to the president you’ll pay 00 more given that the 00 federal tax credit was removed from a much better car. Pay more for this lesser car compared to what’s now called the Premium version . Pay more, get less, how’s that great again?

In the Uk the Y is cheaper than the 3 with PCP , the Y is 0% finance, 3 is 6.8% . And the Y gets a £2000 dealer contribution.

This is bad news for EU RWD LFP model as there is no longer an LFP “premium” offering. Glad I just collected my 2026 CATL LFP64 model with leather seats, rear display and all the goodies here in Ireland. Probably one of the last units as this cloth seat variant will replace it now😅
