What are your thoughts on A Minecraft Movie? Do you think that the core thematic content could still make for a good film, or do you believe that the form that content has taken (i.e. formulaic script, unsightly visual style) detract too much from the movie as a whole?

Well there's 3 movies that come to mind from this trailer: (1) Ready Player One (2) Jumanji 2 (w/ Jack Black) and (3) Wreck-It Ralph1. 1.Although Ready Player One (RP1) celebrates gaming (in a post-dystopian society) it doesn't work because it reduces gaming to a linear-action-adventure hero story where the player saves the world at the end. And Minecraft is the complete anti-thesis of that. (although it could be a final climax). 2. Jumanji 2 was about games as a form of identity and escapism, which leans in the right direction. However Jumanji as a game was actively hostile and antagonistic towards it's players which was the opposite of how RP1 was told, as a celebration of heroism. 3. Lastly Wreck-It Ralph was a story about human friendship and otherness and the game was more of an aesthetic than the focus. I think this is the best approach. Conclusion: What I'm hoping in the story in that they all get stranded in Minecraft and they actually don't hang out but they go off and do their own self-exploration through the game, as a solo experience. Then at the midpoint the game itself is threatened, and now suddenly these people who want nothing to do with each other are incentivized to work together with their unique talents save the world they've all become invested in. In the end the realize that working together and human connection is actually the most fun, leading to their mutual friendship outside of the game. Eventually they all leave the old minecraft behind, but still treasuring the experiences.

I know that this was and would never be your intention, but the way you note the controversy that spawned from this trailer, with a broad brush, as mostly shallow makes it seem like your talking down to the people who take different elements that yours into account with the information they know. Another one of your comments reflect this with this standing out in particular: “At the same time, though, I also think the controversy is ridiculously overblown and mostly caused by the sort of insipid, safe contemporary cultural infantilization the industry has attempted to inculcate in us. People (by which I mean my specific segment of Gen-Z adults) just need to just watch more grown-up movies.“ Without proper elaboration this just rings of “Whatever this controversy brings to discussion is insignificant as the only discussion is surface level” instead of just bringing to light what you see as an underrepresented angle. I know this is a small thing but it bothered me when reading the comments as well as when I watched the video.

They should just make a dark fantasy film of steve exploring and wandering the ruins of the old world, as shown in HELLO THERE's trailer parody. We tend to underestimates childrens appreciation for a story and setting with meaning, which is untrue.

They should make ‘minecraft’ a movie genre and then it’s just all these random people making different Minecraft movies, different style, different story, different everything. cuz that’s also what Minecraft is, it’s different for everybody but everything is possible. It would be like every Minecraft movie is their creators story/history in Minecraft. Idk how to explain it better cuz no English but y’all know what I mean?

The one mistake you have made, is thinking anyone at hollywood cares about movies. At least on the corpo level. Nobody cares, the scripts write themselves as soulless, the actors care more about drama than acting, and the directors are jerkin eachother for how 'great' they are. The cinema world is filled with capitalist ideas. The only films that have any soul are very few
