In this video, I discuss the importance of trimming game rules to enhance strategic excitement in my board game. During playtesting, I noticed that unlimited cannon builds made the game unbalanced and less engaging. By limiting the number of cannons, players are forced to make strategic choices and consider other units like cavalry. Inspired by Catan’s approach to limiting settlements and cities, I aim to create a balanced and exciting gameplay experience. If your game concept isn’t translating well in playtesting, consider simplifying your rules to force tough strategic decisions.
